Episode 26

Episode 26
RECEPTIONIST A
Hello, welcome to the galactic embassy.  Have you made an appointment?

NOVA
Ah, yeah, with Braylin.  For 12:75?

RECEPTIONIST A
Please wait a moment (beeping) Hello, Aurora, how are you today?

NOVA
Just shitting rainbows.

RECEPTIONIST A
Is that a positive response?

NOVA
Sure.

RECEPTIONIST A
Then that is pleasant to hear.  Braylin is waiting for you in his office.

RECEPTIONIST B
I wish you’d stop teaching him weird things.

NOVA
It’s my one joy in life.  Are you really going to take that from me?

RECEPTIONIST B
(Grumbles)
Who do you think has to undo all the stuff you do to him?
Walks past desk
Door closes
NOVA
Hello Braylin.  How’s it going?
Sound of her setting up.
Vwee sounds
Had to upgrade her recently, union tech has been getting tricky.

BRAYLIN
What’re you here for Aurora.  I told you, I’d call if I had anything worth telling you.

NOVA
And that was a lie.  (Braylin makes a noise) Please don’t insult me.  I don’t come to places based on gut feelings.  I come because I already know you’ve fucked up or tried to fuck me over.

BRAYLIN
In what way?

NOVA
I’ve heard rumors about someone claiming to be Eolaran.

BRAYLIN
You came to bother me because of a lie?

NOVA
No, I came because of the eyes.  Rumors have been floating around. They’ve been described as galaxy-like.  Dark blues and blacks and violets filled with pinpricks of light, no sclera.  Complete with small cloud like objects.  Now, I’ve spent a lot of time searching the databases and nothing of the sort has shown up so

BRAYLIN
You thought it might be real?

NOVA
I thought it might be something interesting. Whispers always lead to somewhere Braylin.

BRAYLIN
I’m sorry to be the one to tell you, but this is a dead end.

NOVA
Not “I don’t know anything about it”, but “it’s a dead end?”

BRAYLIN
(beat, wearily)
Aurora, what do you want?

NOVA
What’s so hard to understand about this?  I want what anybody in my position wants, to be the first to get my hands on something valuable.

BRAYLIN
This isn’t something that’s for sale.

NOVA
You’re full of shit

BRAYLIN
Then it’s not something you can afford.

NOVA
I don’t think that’s for you to decide.

BRAYLIN
Aurora, I can’t sell you this.  Follow your rumors elsewhere.

NOVA
We both know that I will find a way to get my hands on what I want, and somebody out there will get paid accordingly.  You can save us both bit of time and money by making sure that person is you.

BRAYLIN
Aurora.

NOVA
Please, it’s not like you really care what happens to me, and we both know that unlike the embassy, I take very, very good care of my clients.

BRAYLIN
Why?  What buyer would even care about some children’s story?

NOVA
Exactly.  As far as you’re concerned this is information that will never sell.  I’ll have paid through the nose for something useless and you can sleep tonight knowing you got a good deal.

BRAYLIN
(beat) I can’t give you this.  I don’t know much.

NOVA
I’ll pay handsomely for what you do.

BRAYLIN
Aurora this is not
(long pause)
Listen, I don’t know if Eolara is (beat) real per se.  But I do know that the union is very concerned with keeping the loss of two of its members very quiet.  They are to be addressed as prince, both with the eyes you described.

NOVA
You got any names for them?

BRAYLIN
Uhm (beat) Wilm and uh (beat) goodness what was the brother’s name?
Sound of things moving across a desk.
Hay-tov?  Hatsov?  Hat-ov?

NOVA
(Snickering)
Wow what a mess.  What do they look like?

BRAYLIN
(beat)
I don’t know.  They just told us about the eyes and the six fingers.

NOVA
And he hasn’t stopped by?

BRAYLIN
Why would he?  If he just walked though looking for us, we wouldn’t need to search.

NOVA
Hmm, anything else, anything about where he’s come from?

BRAYLIN
(Sighs)
Only that it’s a far reach planet and that his disappearance has caused a bit of instability.

NOVA
So, your orders are to?

BRAYLIN
Capture and send them to the base.

NOVA
(In disbelief)
The base, like the original headquarters on Sunorix?

BRAYLIN
That’s the one.

NOVA
You’ve gotta be shitting me.  Is that everything?

BRAYLIN
That’s all anyone knows (beat) at least that’s all I’ve heard.  There’s a lot of speculation, but you know, we don’t ask questions.  The pay on Viaci isn’t great, at least not after the conversion, and we’re so replaceable.

NOVA
Yeah, they should fix that, if they want to make themselves less vulnerable.

BRAYLIN
Mmm.

NOVA
If you could leave both hands on the table, that’d be appreciated.

BRAYLIN
I’m not

NOVA
Both hands on the table, where I can see them.

BRAYLIN
(Huffs)
Aurora aren’t you acting more paranoid than usual?

NOVA
As you said, this is a little above my pay grade.  And you are a fink if I’ve ever met one.

BRAYLIN
I wouldn’t go that far.

NOVA
I’ll give you 1,000 for what you’ve given me today.

BRAYLIN
(Flabbergasted)
I (beat) uhm (beat) my goodness (beat) uhm (beat) I didn’t expect you’d be so (beat) generous.

NOVA
I told you, I take care of my clients, Braylin.  That means I pay you what you’re worth.

BRAYLIN
I uhm, I always felt like you never liked me.

NOVA
I don’t.
Sound of packing.
Thanks Braylin, it was a pleasure.

BRAYLIN
(grumbling)
In what way?

NOVA
With all the cameras, microphones, and red tape, I’m sure the union feels very safe.  I just love the idea of waltzing inside and taking what they haven’t arranged for me to have.  So, I suppose I owe you my thanks.
Vwee sounds and winds down.

BRAYLIN
They don’t know.  I haven’t breathed a word.

NOVA
Oh, maybe you’re right.  This little foray in your office, the office they’ve gifted you, could have gone unnoticed for years.

 BRAYLIN
I

NOVA
But the fact they let you know this much, means that the union is panicking.  Things are getting interesting Braylin.

BRAYLIN
You can’t seriously think Eolara is real.

NOVA
(Leaving)
For fucks sake Braylin, only idiots and desperate people believe in fairytales.
