Minisode 6

Minisode
ALULA
Alright, let’s have it.

NOVA
Have what?

ALULA
Whatever it is you have to say that you can’t because Jeanne’s around.

NOVA
(Beat)
There’s nothing like that.

ALULA
Please, I was young once too. Like to think I still am, but then I see children like you and goddess, you really look like a child. You’re just so young.

NOVA
You’re very talkative

ALULA
We’re not talking about me, you’ll learn plenty. Trust me, after all the time we’ll be together you’ll be able to write a full biography on the subject.

NOVA
Jeanne says that information is power and that I should keep what I can close to my chest

ALULA
Well I wouldn’t say that Jeanne is terribly well adjusted. Would you?

NOVA
(Beat, in disbelief (can she say that?))
What?
(Giggles, then soberly)
Sorry, I didn’t mean to

ALULA
(interrupting)
You have a pretty laugh. When’s the last time you found something funny? I know Jeanne can be a bit euggh

NOVA
Euggh?

ALULA
Precisely.

NOVA
But being an Inco is dangerous. We always have to be on alert and careful. I can’t play around if I’m going to survive.

ALULA
(Laughs)

NOVA
What?

ALULA
Let’s just say that Jeanne and I have very different views on many things Inco.

NOVA
(wearily)
Like what?

ALULA
We’ve gotten off track, you’re going to tell me how you really feel?

NOVA
I’m fine.

ALULA
How about I tell you a secret first then, hmm?

NOVA
Why?

ALULA
Because sometimes the best way to get someone to open up is to make yourself vulnerable. It’s almost endearing isn’t it? Someone wanting to learn about you so badly that they willingly put themselves at a disadvantage.

NOVA
Why do you want to know?

ALULA
Because, I like people and I’d like to be your friend.

NOVA
(flustered)
You want to what? I don’t, I mean, Inco’s don’t. That’s fucking stupid!

ALULA
(easily)
If it’s stupid, then you shouldn’t mind.

NOVA
(Fading footsteps and voice)
I don’t want to be your friend. You’re just trying to set me up.

ALULA
Oh Jeanne, you were always dismal with children
